「確認するぞ？ 五人一組になって、それぞれ分担した校内の場所を回ってくる。その内の一人が目隠しをして回るけど、最初の五分は、周りの人は手を貸さないこと。けど、危ない所もあるから、そういう所だけは前もって教えてあげること、良いな？」
「先生、地図はいつ描くの？」
「これが終わった後。周りの人は、どこがどう危ないか、どうしたら安全になるかを考えながら校内を回ってくれよ。もし時間が無かったら、地図は次の時間に描こうな」
確認を終えると先生は他の五人の先生に他のグループの児童をお願いすると、
「じゃあ行こうか」
そう言って体育館に向かう。メンバーは目隠しをした龍次、明美、久美に友義、健二の五人。
龍次は敦彦がやっていたように、白杖でコツコツと床を叩きつつ教室を上手く出た……が、
「ん？」
教室からは出たが、廊下の壁―家庭科室―に白杖が当る。すると龍次はまだ教室から出ていないと思ったのか、そのまま横伝いに歩き出口を探す。
だが数十歩進んだ所で、龍次もおかしいと気付いたようだ。
「なあ、先生、俺、もう教室出ているのか？」
「最初はアドバイスなしだからな。先生は黙秘させてもらう。もう少し頑張ってみろ」
周りを見てみると他の児童も悪戦苦闘している。七組ある内で、一階におりたのは敦彦が盲目役をやっている班だけだ。
そんな調子で五分が過ぎた。
「龍次、どうだった？」
「……」
龍次はムスッとしたまま返答をしない。
「じゃあ皆、龍次を上手く体育館まで連れて行くにはどうすれば良いかな？」
